Amsafe

History

The making of an industry leader.

In 1955, one of the predecessors to AmSafe, Cummings & Sanders, was granted the metal-to-metal buckle patent. The seatbelt industry was born.

In the early sixties, another AmSafe cornerstone, Bridport plc, then the largest rope and net producer in Europe, began designing and manufacturing nets for the aviation industry. Bridport traces its heritage back to the 13th Century and has continuously occupied the same site for more than 300 years.

Through a combination of exceptional internal growth and a few select strategic acquisitions, AmSafe has become the world’s largest supplier of pilot, crew and passenger restraints for the aviation market. In 1997, AmSafe developed the first aviation airbag restraint system, which took its first flight in 2001, and is now flying on more than 25 commercial airlines and on over eighty-percent of the world's general aviation aircraft. Continuing with its innovations, in 2006 AmSafe received the first FAA approval for a child restraint system designed specifically for use on airplanes during all phases of flight.

AmSafe will continue to bring innovative technology to our customers. We have numerous patents under our belt and have become a world leader in the design, manufacture and support of a wide range of textile products for the civil aviation and defense markets.
