Mike Austin
Director of Operations, Elkhart
Mike joined AmSafe in 2008, as program manager and now holds the position of director of operations based in Elkhart, Indiana. Mike brings with him 25 years of manufacturing experience, primarily in the automobile seat industry. During his 15 years at Dura Automotive, Mike held the position as director of operations for the component hardware division and managed three other divisions within the organization (two in Indiana and one in Iowa). Prior to Dura, Mike worked for a northern Indiana company as a manufacturing engineer building pressure vessels. Mr. Austin served four years with U.S. Navy and achieved his Manufacturing Engineering Technology degree from San Diego City College. Mike is an accredited senior member of Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
 
Richard Betts
Operations Director, Bridport
Richard joined AmSafe in 2004, to open and manage the customer service center in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Once established, Richard was promoted to operations manager in AmSafe’s manufacturing facilities located in Colombo, Sri Lanka and Kunshan, China. In 2010, Richard relocated to the UK and is the operations director of the Bridport facility.
 
Sean Casey
Director of European Operations, Child & Specialty Vehicle Restraints
Sean joined AmSafe in 2000 as operations manager at our U.K. facility before and now holds the position of director of European operations for the Child & Specialty Vehicle product line. Prior to joining AmSafe, Sean spent ten years with a world-leading automotive occupant safety equipment manufacturer working in the planning and logistics, finance, engineering and sales divisions. Sean led the transformation of our European manufacturing capabilities.
 
Guy Cipresso
Director, Specialty Vehicle Restraints
Guy joined AmSafe in 2009 and brings over 12 years of experience in global sales and business development and another 12 years in manufacturing operations. He comes to AmSafe from Universal Laser Systems where he managed sales and business development worldwide. During his 24-year tenure in business, Guy developed various tactical strategies that led to lucrative new business opportunities with many well known companies.
 
Chandani Ekanayake
Operations Director, Sri Lanka
Chandani joined AmSafe in 2005 as the quality assurance manager in Asia. She was elevated to the head of quality in 2010, and in 2011 she was promoted to the operations director of Sri Lanka facility. Prior to joining AmSafe, Chandani worked in industrial engineering and then shifted to the implementation of systems for quality & operations; she worked nine years at a leading Japanese electronic products manufacturer managerial capacity. Chandani holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial management.
 
Trevor Fears
Repair Station Manager, Feltham UK
Trevor is the Repair Station Manager for our Feltham, UK facility. In this role, Trevor is responsible for aviation restraints repairs and overhaul for customers in Europe, The Middle East and elsewhere, and support our aviation interiors product line. Trevor had previously been the Materials Manager at Feltham.
 
Michael Jing
General Manager, Chongqing, China
Michael joined AmSafe in 1999 as the general manager of the China facility where he oversees Asian sourcing and the manufacturing, overhaul and repairs of aviation restraints, largely for customers in Asia. Before joining AmSafe, Michael was manager of the investment department of Yu Feng International (Hong Kong) Ltd. and prior to that, he was the assistant general manager of Chongqing Cam Shaft Co., Ltd., a major supplier of metal accessories to automobile manufacturers. Mr. Jing earned a Bachelor’s degree of Automation from Tsinghua University in Beijing, specializing in production process control.
 
Amy Martz
Director of Operations, Erie
Amy initially joined AmSafe in 2001 as an accounting manager and served for several years as the financial controller for the Erie, PA operation. As Director of Operations for the Erie facility, she is responsible for all operational activities—inclusive of production, quality purchasing, Finance, Human Resources and customer service with a focus on growing the repair and manufacturing operations in the Americas.
 
Johnie McDaniel
General Manager, Atlanta
Johnie joined AmSafe in January of 2006 as operations and quality manager, and was promoted to general manager in 2007. As general manager of the Atlanta facility, Johnie is responsible for operations, quality control, and customer service. Johnie came to AmSafe from Jouve Data Management, where he served as an aircraft manuals analyst. Johnie has enjoyed a 32-year career at Delta Air Lines, holding positions in inventory management and technical publications. Mr. McDaniel graduated from Gordon Military College with an Associate’s degree and from the United States Army Officer Candidate School with a commission in the U.S. Army.
 
Neal McKeever
Vice President of Defense
Neal joined AmSafe in January 2007, and is responsible for developing the AmSafe defense business in the UK and abroad. Prior to joining AmSafe, Neal had a 26-year career with Smiths Aerospace. In his last position as managing director of International Military Business, Neal was responsible for development of business and key account management in the military market outside North America; prior to this position, Neal was managing director of Smiths’ UK Avionics business. Mr. McKeever is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
 
Robert Mechem
General Manager, Aftermarket Spares & Services
Robert joined AmSafe as commercial director for the former Britannic Aviation subsidiary when acquired by AmSafe in March 1996. He was appointed in September 2000 to general manager of the Aftermarket Spares & Services product area and is responsible for business development, inventory management and sales activities surrounding the distribution business at the Portsmouth, NH and Steyning, UK operations. Mr. Mechem was one of the original directors of Britannic Aviation when it was formed in 1991 to specialize in the aircraft parts distribution business and prior to that, he spent six years as a director of Hayward and Green Ltd, a UK aircraft parts supplier.
 
David Merrill
Vice President of Defense
Dave joined AmSafe in 1992, and was promoted into the former Commercial Products business unit. Between 1994 and 2006, Dave was responsible for developing the ground vehicle restraint market and instrumental in positioning the business as an industry leader. In 2006, Dave was recruited into defense area where he is responsible for the introduction of AmSafe restraint technologies into the branches of the US military. During his tenure at AmSafe, Dave obtained patents on several restraint products, most notably the innovative buckle that is currently used on the military HMMWV.
 
Christopher Muklevicz
Vice President of Sales, Aviation Restraints
Chris joined AmSafe in 2009, and brings with him over 19 years of aerospace and defense experience. Chris has spent the majority of his career at Danaher Corp., where he recently held the position of vice president of sales & marketing for the Pacific Scientific Electro Kinetics Division. During his tenure at Danaher, Chris worked at the Pacific Scientific HTL/Kin-Tech division where he was responsible for the seat restraint systems product line; he began his career in the air cargo equipment sector.
 
Adriaan Siewertsen
Director, Child Restraints
Adriaan Siewertsen joined AmSafe in 2010 as Director, Child Restraints and is based in the Netherlands. In his position, Adriaan’s primary responsibility is to develop our child safety restraint business in Europe. Adriaan worked for Philips Industrial Consulting as an innovation consultant. Prior to his time with Philips, Adriaan worked with the top two brands in the European child safety market, Team Tex and Dorel, in the areas of R&D, product development and product line management for their child safety seat and stroller product categories.
 
Joseph Smith
Vice President and Product Line Manager, Airbag Products
Joe joined the company in 2001 and is responsible for defining and directing all activities involving the AmSafe Seatbelt Airbag system. Before joining AmSafe, Joe was director of operations at Triumph Air Repair in the repair and overhaul of gas turbine engines and their related components and systems. Prior to that, he spent seven years managing a supplier of fans/motors/blowers, solenoids and valves for major aircraft engine and airframe OEM’s. Overall Joe has 27-years of design, flight/ground test, manufacturing and management experience in aerospace and commercial industries. Mr. Smith earned his BSAE degree at Arizona State University along with graduate work towards a Master’s degree in Aeronautics.
Salvador Valle
General Manager, Escape Slides and Equipment
Sal joined AmSafe in July of 2005 as the materials manager for the Escape Slides and Equipment product line, and in December 2011, he was promoted to general manager of the California facility. As the general manager he oversees the overall daily operations of the escape slides and emergency equipment overhauls and is also responsible for new business development for the PMA cylinders. Before joining AmSafe, Sal was the materials manager for three years at BF Goodrich in Santa Fe Springs, California. Sal has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Guadalajara, Mexico and brings an entrepreneurial spirit that he acquired while managing his family’s restaurants for 12 years.
 
Fred Wang
Director of Asian Operations, Child & Specialty Vehicle Restraints
Fred joined AmSafe in 2010 and brings with him over 25 years of experience, with 14 years in management positions within the automotive industry. Prior to joining AmSafe, Fred was the general manager for GKN Driveline Torque Shanghai, a start-up operation where he contributed to its significant growth. Before GKN, Fred was plant manager for Dana located Wuxi and prior to that, Fred worked at Futuris Automotive Interiors, where he initially started as operations director responsible for building up their new Anhui plant and then promoted to general manager. Before he joined Futuris, Fred was with General Motors, China, in supplier quality and development. Fred’s automotive career initially started in product development with TRW Lucas Varity in 1996 before progressing into production management. Mr. Wang earned a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Tsinghua University and a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Taiyuan University of Technology.
