Award presented at the Vehicle Survivability Land Systems Summit in Germany.
AmSafe Industries, Inc., the leading provider of engineered restraint systems to the aviation, defense and specialty vehicle markets, today announced it has received the Best Innovative Technology award for its Tarian® QuickShield™ RPG protection system.
The Survivability Solution Awards were created to honor and promote the specific products, services and solutions that have enhanced the protection of service personnel operating across the full range of missions and operations. The judge panel consisted of seven senior active military personnel from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Germany, and their award criteria was based on the technology and its contribution to overall risk mitigation.
The Best Innovative Technology award, presented at the Vehicle Survivability Land Systems Summit held in Berlin on November 30, is given for the outstanding development in the field of vehicle survivability. There were twelve nominees in category and AmSafe received the award for Tarian QuickShield, its RPG protection system that is currently being used by the British Army in Afghanistan.
“We are extremely pleased with this award especially given the field of nominees and that our product was judged by a panel of leading military experts in the field of vehicle survivability,” stated Neal McKeever, vice president of defense for AmSafe. “Our engineering team spent several years perfecting the Tarian technology and this award truly demonstrates that their efforts have been recognized.”
Previously stated in a comment by Maj Gareth East, REME, the UK MOD Specialist Logistic Vehicles UOR Program Manager, “The introduction of QuickShield into operations in Afghanistan allows vehicle crew to rapidly repair damaged bar armor in the field, without the need for specialist tools, and will therefore help to ensure better vehicle protection during extended missions away from bases.”
Tarian QuickShield is a lightweight textile net that is used to replace damaged or missing bar armor. The QuickShield kit can be easily stowed in the vehicle; when needed, it can be immediately fitted in replacement of damaged bar armor. QuickShield provides continuing protection to the vehicle and its crew without mission disruption.
The Tarian technology, in operational service in Afghanistan since 2009, has been rigorously tested—in the U.K. by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, an agency of the Ministry of Defence, and in the U.S. by its Department of Defense counterpart DARPA—to include over 750 live firing shots. This testing has verified both a high level of performance and a multi-hit capability inherent in the Tarian technology.
